Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 28, 2017) – The fireworks came from everyone on Oklahoma Christian's roster on Saturday afternoon, but two usual suspects continued to be the ringleaders.
Addy Clift and
McKenzie Stanford each scored 19 points and every player on the OC roster had at least one point as the Lady Eagles routed Oklahoma Panhandle State 96-60 in the Eagles' Nest.
OC (11-11, 6-4 Heartland Conference) completed its second regular-season sweep of an opponent in three days – having also done so against Newman (Kan.) on Thursday – and remained a game out of fourth place in the league standings heading into a big three-game road trip that will include trips to Heartland co-leaders St. Mary's (Texas) and St. Edward's (Texas).
"It's nice when you can hit on all cylinders and get a lead where you feel good about it, and feel good about hanging on to the lead, as opposed to being up and down like we have been most of the year," OC coach
Stephanie Findley said. "The girls were shooting very well today and if we're shooting well, we can play with anybody. We've got to keep that rolling somehow."
OC shot an impressive 58.2 percent from the field – its second-best shooting outing of the season – and was never threatened against OPSU (1-17, 0-10), trailing for only a minute early in the game and leading by as many as 42 points. The Lady Eagles limited their turnovers, only committing 12, and outrebounded OPSU 39-34.
Clift, coming off a 33-point outing against Newman in which she went 8-of-10 from 3-point range, continued her hot shooting, hitting 5-of-8 3-point attempts. Stanford went 6-of-9 from the field and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Both probably would have scored more, but played only 23 and 24 minutes, respectively, with the game well in hand.
"I think (Clift) heard us tell stories about (former OC sharpshooter) Ali Griffin the other day, so she shot some even deeper tonight than she did the last game," Findley said. "We're figuring out more in our offense about where we're finding those openings, I think, and getting more used to looking for people in certain situations. The team chemistry is getting better and better."
Sarah Parker added 15 points for OC, going 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, and added four steals.
Audrey Hayes gave the Lady Eagles four double-figure scorers with 12 points and also grabbed six rebounds.
OC's bench also contributed substantially –
Megan Shelton scored nine points,
Emma Gade had five points and five rebounds,
Hope Dawkins had five points and matched her career high with four blocked shots and freshman
Tori Connell swished a rainbow 3-pointer with 2:27 left that produced the biggest cheer of the game from OC fans and gave the Lady Eagles their biggest lead at 94-52.
OC led 27-18 early in the third quarter before reeling off 13 straight points to make it 40-18. The Lady Eagles led 51-32 at halftime and used a 14-2 run early in the third quarter to essentially put away the game.
Shaletha Mayberry led the Aggies with 11 points, while Addison Munsch and Johlicia Williams added 10 each.
OC will visit St. Edward's next Saturday.
