OC’s balance of strong athletics and academics ranks among the nation’s elite. Our student-athletes annually post a cumulative GPA of 3.0+ and are rewarded each year with national scholar-athlete honors. More importantly, our student-athletes become equipped for successful careers in all walks of life.
The Anderson Endowment for Academic Excellence in Athletics provides OC student-athletes with an athletic academic advisor who monitors in-class grades and arranges for tutoring if necessary.
It also enables the podcasting of classes for all excused absences for athletic-related travel. As the program develops in the coming years, life-skills training and leadership components will be added.
The endowment quickly has paid dividends for OC student-athletes. In the 2013-14 academic year, OC tied for the best overall athletic department grade-point average in the Heartland Conference at 3.29, while three OC teams -- baseball, softball and women's cross country -- won Heartland academic championships. In 2015-16, OC's female student-athletes again topped the Heartland list.
The endowment is funded by a $1 million gift to Oklahoma Christian by Mo and Richard Anderson of Austin, Texas. Former OC basketball player Andee Wayne is their granddaughter. Mo Anderson is the vice chairman of the board for Keller Williams Realty, Inc.
The program is led by Director of Academic Excellence in Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Well-Being Teresa DeBoard. A 2000 OC graduate, DeBoard began working in the athletic department in December 2013, after almost 13 years of service in the university’s admissions office.
She and her husband, Scott, live in Edmond and have a son, Sam. Her brother is OC’s intramural director, Rick Judd.
