Clift shines, but Lady Eagles fall at Arkansas Tech

OC sophomore Addy Clift went 5-of-8 from 3-point range in the loss at Arkansas Tech.
Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (Nov. 22, 2016) – Arkansas Tech quickly figured out what Heartland Conference foes already know – a zone defense doesn't work well against Oklahoma Christian sophomore guard Addy Clift, whose long-range 3-pointers have become a favorite of OC fans.

Clift was on her game on Tuesday night, scoring a career-high 27 points, but Arkansas Tech – coached by OC baseball alum Dave Wilbers – managed to limit the rest of the Lady Eagles and posted an 83-66 nonconference win at Tucker Coliseum.

OC (1-4) shot just 36.1 percent from the field, while the Golden Suns of the Great American Conference hit 47.5 percent of their shots, the numbers that proved to be the "whole difference," OC coach Stephanie Findley said.

"The turnovers were about the same (15 for Arkansas Tech, 14 for OC) and they outrebounded us by just a few," Findley said. "We missed a lot of shots because we let the physical play affect our shots.

"Addy had a really good game. I just wish we would have helped her out. We've got to get more balanced scoring. My job is to figure it out."

For the first 14 minutes of the game, the Lady Eagles held their own against Arkansas Tech (3-1), a traditionally strong squad which had been ranked in the Division II top 25 until Tuesday. That was due in good part to Clift, who hit her first four 3-point attempts.

Her third gave OC its final lead at 21-20 at the 8:15 mark of the second quarter and her fourth, at the 6:47 mark, tied the game at 24-24. The Lady Eagles didn't score again for nearly four minutes as Arkansas Tech built an 11-point lead. The Golden Suns kept their advantage in double digits for most of the rest of the game.

Arkansas Tech led 42-30 at halftime and started the second half on an 8-0 spurt. OC trailed 61-44 entering the fourth quarter and cut that margin to nine points at 68-57 with 3:21 left after a put-back basket by Kylee Hicks, but came no closer.

Outside of Clift, no OC player scored in double figures. McKenzie Stanford, Sarah Parker and Hicks had eight points each for the Lady Eagles. Stanford raised her career point total to 1,239 and moved past Kailan Decamp (2006-2010) into 19th place on OC's all-time scoring list.

Kelsey McClure led the Golden Suns with 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Anissa Pounds added 17 points, six assists and three steals and Danielle Franchiseur had 14 points for Arkansas Tech.

OC will return to action on Saturday, hosting regionally ranked Texas Woman's at 3 p.m.
