RICHARDSON, Texas (May 4, 2022) – First-team selections
Aaliyah Brown and
Brooklin Bain led seven Oklahoma Christian softball players who received All-Lone Star Conference honors on Wednesday night
The 55-woman All-LSC list was announced on the eve of the LSC Championship tournament, which will begin Thursday in Tyler, Texas. Also revealed were the LSC's All-Freshman and All-Academic lists, and the Eagles were represented on those teams by
Grace Anderson and
Kylie Janzen, respectively.
OC (38-12) likely is headed to the NCAA Division II tournament and the Eagles' depth is a big reason why. Janzen also made the All-LSC second-team list, while four OC players – Anderson,
Chloe Woodward,
Kali Crandall and
Whitney Walde – appeared on the third-team All-LSC list.
Brown, a sophomore designated player from Oklahoma City, enters the postseason as the LSC's leading hitter at .457, with 42 RBIs and six home runs. She ranks second in the LSC in on-base percentage (.540) and seventh in slugging percentage (.733). It's her first all-conference honor.
Bain, a sophomore third baseman from Comanche, Okla., received her second All-LSC nod but her first first-team selection. She's also a two-time All-LSC pick in women's basketball. In softball this season, she's hitting .376 with five home runs and 33 RBIs in only 38 games. She also set a school record with a 20-game hitting streak. Her .696 slugging percentage ranks 10th in the LSC and her seven triples rank second. She's also a perfect 18-of-18 in stolen bases.
Janzen, a sophomore first baseman and outfielder from Moore, Okla., earned her second All-LSC honor in as many seasons. She ranks first in the LSC in triples with eight and is seventh in RBIs (45) and 11th in slugging percentage (.689) while hitting .333 with eight home runs. She's also a classroom star, with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in Biology, earning her a spot on the All-Academic team, which is chosen by the LSC's athletic communications professionals and takes into account both academic and athletic performance.
A freshman from Tishomingo, Okla., Anderson quickly emerged as a two-way threat for the Eagles, both as a pitcher and an infielder. In the circle, she went 13-4 with a 2.39 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 129 innings. She threw a perfect game and a one-hitter. She also proved to be a capable hitter, batting .286 with 17 RBIs.
Crandall, a junior from Artesia, N.M., was last season's NCAA Division II South Central Region pitcher of the year and made both major All-America lists in addition to earning All-LSC first-team honors. In 2022, she's continued as one of the LSC's best hurlers, going 15-7 with a 2.38 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 138 innings. She's moved into second place on OC's career lists for wins (67) and strikeouts (549). The all-conference award was her third, as she also made the All-Heartland Conference first-team list in 2019.
Walde, a sophomore catcher from Moore, Okla., made the All-LSC third-team list for the second straight season. She started all 50 regular-season games for the Eagles, hitting .342 with 27 RBIs and a team-high 14 doubles, sixth-best in the LSC. She ranks third in the LSC in fielding percentage (.997) and fourth in throwing out potential base stealers (having done so nine times).
Woodward, a sophomore shortstop from Katy, Texas, emerged as a solid offensive threat for the Eagles, hitting .354 with 18 RBIs and 11 doubles. She also posted a healthy .950 fielding percentage.
