ATLANTA (Nov. 24, 2020) – Just as she did in the NCAA Division II ranks while playing at Oklahoma Christian,
Addy Clift is making a name for herself in the Women's Universal Basketball Association.
On Tuesday,
the WUBA announced the results of its fan voting for the league's All-Star Game and Clift – who plays for the Oklahoma Ravens – topped the fan voting for the Eastern Conference team, earning her a spot in the contest that is scheduled to be played in Oakland, Calif., on Dec. 18.
Clift, a 5-foot-7 guard from Kiowa, Okla., received 1,848 fan votes, more than doubling the second-highest vote total by an Eastern Conference player. She finished second in the overall voting behind Alexis Gray-Lawson, a former California star who now plays for the WUBA's Oakland Warriors and received 1,871 votes.
Clift ranks second in the WUBA in scoring at 24.3 points per game. Her big scoring numbers aren't surprising to OC fans, who watched Clift establish numerous school and Heartland Conference scoring records while playing for the Lady Eagles from 2015 to 2019. She finished as the Heartland's all-time scoring leader with 2,104 points and led Division II in scoring as a senior at 26.4 points per game. She was a two-time Division II All-America selection and the Heartland player of the year for 2018-19.
The Ravens chose Clift with their first-round pick (21st overall) in the WUBA draft held in September. According to its website, the WUBA is a league that provides "benefits, programs and services which promote members' professional growth and quality of basketball" and attempts to "give each player the opportunity to play on the next level through pro cups, tours and international events."
The league, which began in 2010, says it has sent more than 250 players to play overseas for professional teams. Clift has described it as a semipro league in which the players "have either been pro, are pro or trying to be pro." She falls into the latter category.
Clift will be joined as an Eastern Conference All-Star starter by Amber Holt, Carrie Washington and Hasina Muhammad of the Southern Generals and Briana Williams of the GIE Maile Matrix. Both those franchises are based in Atlanta. The reserve All-Stars will be named Dec. 1, 2020, with voting will be done by owners and coaches only.
