Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. (Jan. 7, 2016) – The quarters timing system for collegiate women's basketball is in its first season, but it's quickly become apparent that 40-point quarters will be extremely rare. Maybe so, but Oklahoma Christian now has two of them.
The latest came Thursday, a 40-point outburst in the third quarter that turned a marginally close game against Oklahoma Panhandle State into a runaway. The Lady Eagles led by as many as 37 points en route to a 101-81 decision over the Aggies at Oscar Williams Field House.
OC (6-8, 3-1 Heartland Conference) will carry a three-game road winning streak into its game Saturday afternoon at No. 2-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas).
OC now has surpassed the 100-point mark twice this season, also doing so in a 123-76 win over St. Gregory's on Nov. 30, during which the Lady Eagles opened with a 40-point quarter. It's the first time since the 2010-11 season – when they did so against Hillsdale Baptist and Oklahoma City University – that the Lady Eagles have had two 100-point games in the same campaign.
Against OPSU (1-11, 0-4), OC received balanced scoring.
Addy Clift led the way with 19 points, while
Sarah Parker had 16 points and eight rebounds.
McKenzie Stanford had 12 points – seven of those in the opening sequence of the third quarter – while
Sydney Hill had 11 points and seven assists.
The Lady Eagles' bench also chipped in. Freshman
Shae Scheffler scored eight points, including two free throws with 28.5 seconds left that put OC into triple digits on the scoreboard.
The Aggies led 21-18 after the first quarter, as OC went the final 6:06 without a field goal. Hill opened the second quarter with two 3-pointers, keying an 11-0 run, and the Lady Eagles never trailed again.
OC led 40-28 at halftime after
Aisha Martin's buzzer-beating layup. Stanford opened the second half with a 3-pointer to start a 21-10 run that covered the first four minutes of the third quarter. By the time
Hannah Holasek closed out the quarter with a basket and a free throw in the final 22 seconds, OC led 80-47. Stanford's basket early in the fourth quarter pushed the lead to 37 at 84-47.
The Lady Eagles shot a respectable 42.5 percent from the field (34 of 80) compared to 35.9 percent (28 of 78) for the Aggies. Charron Johnson led OPSU with 19 points, while Tatyana Bell had 11.
