LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Oklahoma Christian women's volleyball program earned the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award following the 2024-25 academic year, the AVCA announced Monday, July 21.
The Eagles are one of 1450 collegiate and high school volleyball teams in the country who maintained a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. This is the third time since the program's reinstatement in 2020 OC has garnered the academic award.
"I am extremely proud of our entire staff and our players for this prestigious award," head coach
Asa Freeman said. "This truly is a team award. The focus and determination it took to maintain such a level in the classroom all year reflects the high standard our players have set for themselves and us coaches have for our program. To do this alongside our first 20-win season in program history will set the benchmark for what OC volleyball will be known for for years to come."
In 2024, OC volleyball's inaugural 20-win season came with a program-record nine Lone Star Conference wins, earning it the seven seed in the LSC Tournament. Outside hitter
Chloe Jones was named the Co-Freshman of the Year along with a Second Team All-Conference nod.
With five of the Eagles' six players with the most sets played returning in 2025, the highly-anticipated new season begins in Wichita Falls, Texas, Friday, Sept. 5 with the Midwestern State Invitational. Oklahoma Christian's home slate begins with the LSC Challenge against Texas Permian Basin Thursday, Sept. 18.
