Lady Eagles Look To Bring the Heat in Final Two Home Games of the Season, Hosting the Lobos and the Mustangs in the Nest

EDMOND, Okla. - Head Coach Markeith Brown and the Lady Eagles (8-15, LSC 5-14)  still have much to accomplish in the three games remaining in the 2024-2025 season. They are looking to close the homestead with two wins this week as they host Lone Star Conference newcomers Sul Ross State (2-20, LSC 1-18) for the first time and close out by hosting Western New Mexico (3-20, LSC 3-16) on Saturday and sending out the five seniors with a 2-0 week for their final time to play in the Nest.

The Lady Eagles Outlook (8-15, LSC 5-14)

Oklahoma Christian enters the final week at home after a 1-1 weekend in Texas. Claiming the overtime revenge win over the Rattlers of St. Mary's, behind yet another 20+ point performance from freshman guard Ciara Harris (23)  and three seniors scoring in double figures, Nakia Cullom (15), Jordan Francisco (14) and Kate Bradley (11). The Lady Eagles followed with a battle to the end at St. Edward's but fell short of a win there.

The Lady Eagles are led by senior guard Bradley, trying to finish an absolutely stellar final-year campaign with two final wins in the Eagle's Nest. Bradley, who averages just under 14 points a game, 4.3 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, sits near the top of multiple statistical categories in the conference and is leading the nation at the Division II level in minutes played per game.

Helping lead the charge for the Lady Eagles, Cullom has continued to improve and increase production as the year progresses, averaging 10.7 points per game and 5.6 rebounds.

Oklahoma Christian has begun to lean on the production of two true freshmen, with Ciara Harris continuing to show off her speed and athleticism on the floor, slashing through the lane and hitting some tough finishes at the basket, and the spark off the bench from Reagan Berry, who not only is still holding a perfect 13-13 from the foul line but is giving the Lady Eagles solid production in the paint on both the offensive and defensive side of the game.

Scouting The Lobos (2-20, LSC 1-18)

The Lobos of Sul Ross State entered the Lone Star Conference from Division III this year and are looking to build a high standard of competition. Leading the charge for Sul Ross, head coach E.J. Lee Smith took over the program right before the 2022-2023 season and is looking to help the program rise to this new level of play.

The senior leadership of Cheyanne Bonilla and freshman newcomer TaMalya Mims are leading the Lobos. Both averaging over 10 points a contest and making things happen on the defensive end of the ball.

Series History

These two teams have never faced off, and the winner of Thursday's game takes control of the series lead.

Scouting the Mustangs

In her first season at the helm over the Mustang program, Brenda Nichols is trying to form their own identity, returning only one player, senior Eliza Joynes, from last year's roster; this is an entirely different team than last year.

The Mustangs have struggled on both ends of the ball to find their team identity but have seen promise in freshman guard Alina Martin, averaging 9.5 points per game, about four rebounds, and a handful of assists each game.

Series History

The Lady Eagles hold a 2-1 series lead over the Mustangs, but the Mustangs have the advantage of winning last year's matchup in Silver City, NM.

Last Year Matchup - Feb. 24th, 2024. OC 66 - WNMU 72

The Mustangs won their first game against the Lady Eagles, a wire-to-wire home win. This was primarily due to the Mustangs' bench, which outscored the Lady Eagles 40-18.

The Lady Eagles fought back in the second half behind great performances from Taylor Jackson and Asiyha Smith. The Lady Eagles outscored the Mustangs in the second half 35-32 but could not overcome the entire nine-point deficit from the first half.
