EDMOND, Okla. - The Lady Eagles (2-1, 0-0 LSC) on a two-game win streak, will host the Roger State Hillcats (3-2, 0-0 MIAA) to close out the November part of the calendar before entering Lone Star Conference play next week. The Lady Eagles and the Hillcats will tip off in the Payne Athletic Center on Tuesday, Nov. 26th at 5:30 p.m.
Eagles Outlook
Coach Brown has the Lady Eagles in a confident spot entering the final non-conference game of the season, coming off a down-to-the-wire win over Newman, where the Lady Eagles found scoring from all over the roster. This was highlighted by the breakout performance from
Elikya Baseyila, putting up 18 points in just her third game in an OC uniform and grabbing eight rebounds in the contest. Along with Baseyila, four other Lady Eagles are averaging double-figure scoring,
Kate Bradley,
Nakia Cullom,
Taylor Jackson, and
Ciara Harris.
Over the first three games, the Lady Eagles have held their opponents to shoot 38% from the field, 26% from long range, and holding their opponents on average to under 60 points. This will be tested, as incoming Hillcats have four players shooting over 45% from the field. Oklahoma Christian will look to continue their strong play in the lanes, having out rebounded their opponents each of the first three games, averaging just under 40 rebounds a game as a team.
In the first game, ball security and movement highlighted the team's success, averaging just 10 turnovers and distributing the ball well, averaging 16 assists per game.
Scouting the Hillcats
Head coach Heather Davis is now in her second season with Rogers State, she and the Hillcats are looking to improve on last year's first-time introduction into the Davis era. The Hillcats picked 13th in the MIAA coaches and media preseason poll might already be turning some heads with wins over Oklahoma Baptist and East Central, who took down the Lady Eagles in their season opener.
The Hillcats lean on the scoring from junior guard, Bailey Layman and junior forward Ella Hafer, both averaging just over 10 points a game.
Coach Davis has played with many different starting lineups this season. Due to injury and other circumstances, RSU has seen many different combinations on the floor and in the starting lineup, with Hafer being the only Hillcats to start all five games this season.
