EDMOND, Okla. - After a recorder-breaking offensive performance against Randall University, Oklahoma Christian (1-1, 0-0 LSC) looks to keep their foot on the gas as they are set to host Newman University (3-2 0-0 MIAA) in the Nest Friday evening, Nov. 22nd with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
Eagles Outlook (1-1, 0-0 LSC)
The Lady Eagles enter their third game of the season looking build off and improve from the prior two outing. The first being a loss to ECU in which OC showed resilience, clawing their way back from a first quarter, 15-point deficit to give themselves a chance to win in the in the final minutes of play. While the Tigers would come away with the victory, the Lady Eagles saw the momentum shift in their favor, as they would outscore the Tigers 54-45 in the final three quarters of the game. Taylor Jackson, led the charge in the Lady Eagles comeback with a season opening double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds).
The Lady Eagles would not find themselves in a similar situation against Randal, stomping out the Saints 104-39. This historical victory for the Lady Eagles would be a complete team effort, as OC had five players finish with double-digit scoring, held their opponents to under 40 points, showing great ball movement with the team recording 26 assists, and dominating the rebound game, with an incredible 51 team rebound total. In just 22 game minutes, Nakia Cullom would put on a shooting clinic, going 7-8 from the field, 2-2 from long range, and 4-4 from the charity stripe to lead the all scorers with 20 points.
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles is redshirt junior Taylor Jackson, recording double-doubles in both games, she is averaging 14 points, 11.5 rebounds, and making a different on defense recording four blocks and three steals over the first two games.
Making things happen in the front court, the duo of Kate Bradley and Nakia Cullom are accounting for a major part of the Lady Eagles offensive. The two have combined for 54 points, 21 rebounds, 14 assists, and 6 steals.
Two new faces to the roster this year are also making a strong impact for the Lady Eagles early in this season. Transfer Caitlynn Jordan and true freshman Ciara Harris have given solid minutes off the bench, bring energy to the offensive and finding ways to get to the basket.
Scouting the Jets
The Jets began their second year under head coach Amy Briggs competing in the 2024 MIAA/GAC Challenge. While Newman would find themselves dropping the first two games, they would see a turn around, entering the game against OC on a three game winning streak.
The Jets look to play tough, lockdown defense, as they have held their opponents to shoot an average of 34% from the field and in the last four games, have held their foes to under 60 points.
The Jets are being led by sophomore forward, Jaeden McMillin. McMillin has already tallied two 20 point game this season, bring her average to 15.4 points per game and just under seven rebounds.
While the Lady Eagles hold the all-time series lead 13-8, the Jets are entering the 21st match up having won the last four. The last time OC walked away with a win over Newman, the teams were meeting as Heartland Conference foes in 2019.
