Michael Lewis Joins Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

EDMOND, Okla. - Ahead of Oklahoma Christian's season opener, head coach Markeith Brown has added to his staff, bringing Michael Lewis on board as assistant coach for the 2024-25 season.

Lewis joins the OC coaching ranks after several stints as a high school head men's basketball coach, college assistant head men's and women's basketball coach, and a college men's cross country coach.

Most recently, Lewis spent a year at NAIA member Friends University as the assistant men's basketball coach, where he was in charge of recruiting. player development and devising of in-game strategies. 

Prior to his time with the Falcons, Lewis worked for Wichita West High School in Wichita, Kan., where, in addition to head men's basketball coach, he also filled the role of head men's and women's cross country coach.

While at WWHS, Lewis produced four All-City Honorable Mention basketball players and one Second Team All-City honoree before coaching a First Team All-City boys cross country runner as well as a girls State qualifier and a boys State qualifying team.

After working as a graduate assistant as a basketball manager at Wichita State University, Lewis' first coaching gig came at NCAA Division III LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, working as the assistant men's basketball coach and recruiting coordinator from 2005-2014 and also the head men's cross country coach from '09-'14.

In his nine years with the Yellowjackets, Lewis coached 21 Academic All-Conference selections, six East Division All-Freshman Team honorees, including a East Division Freshman of the Year, and 14 total All-Conference recipients, plus an East Division Player of the Year.

Lewis will join coach Brown and fellow assistants Jaylen Mallard and Katrina Christian on the sideline when Oklahoma Christian opens the season inside the Payne Athletic Center against East Central Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.
