LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 3, 2022) – Oklahoma Christian will enter the softball postseason as a top-20 squad in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division II poll.
In the final regular-season poll released Tuesday, OC (38-12) stood at No. 19. The Eagles slipped four spots from a week earlier after going 2-2, losing twice at Texas A&M-Commerce last Tuesday before rebounding for a doubleheader sweep at Cameron on Friday.
OC is one of six Lone Star Conference teams in this week's poll, along with No. 1 Texas-Tyler, No. 2 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 7 Angelo State (Texas), No. 13 Lubbock Christian (Texas) and No. 18 TAMUC. St. Mary's (Texas) of the LSC also received votes, finishing 28th in the balloting of 16 coaches – two from each of Division II's eight regions.
Two other Oklahoma teams also were in the top 25 – No. 5 Central Oklahoma and No. 6 Rogers State, both of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
The top 10 consisted of Texas-Tyler (40-4), TAMUK (43-8), Indianapolis (Ind.) (45-7), Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) (38-8), UCO (44-8), Rogers State (43-9), Angelo State (38-9), Tampa (Fla.) (33-10), California State-San Marcos (39-9) and Valdosta State (Ga.) (33-9).
OC will face Lubbock Christian at 11 a.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals of the LSC Championship tournament in Tyler, Texas. The winner will advance to a 4 p.m. semifinal game against either TAMUK, St. Mary's or St. Edward's (Texas), with the title game set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The NCAA will announce the field for the Division II tournament on Monday at 9 a.m. on www.ncaa.com.
