Softball Fights Back with 2-0 Day, Advances to Regional Final

TYLER, Texas - After earning a rematch with No. 5 seed Colorado Christian following a 4-1 victory over No. 8 seed MSU Denver, Kadence Brewster broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth in route to OC's 4-1 victory over the Cougars Friday evening.

The Eagles dropped game one against CCU Thursday before logging consecutive victories to earn a spot in the sub-region final, where the maroon-and-gray will need two victories over No. 1 [1] UT Tyler Saturday, May 10 beginning at 1 p.m. CT.

In both games on day two of the South Central Regional, OC either trailed or was tied heading into the sixth innings. Against MSU Denver, a Roadrunner fielding error turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead while the aforementioned Brewster used a home run to break a 1-1 tie.

Grace Anderson (18-8) and Jill Dickson (20-11) each logged complete games, combining to allow just two total runs on 10 hits while striking out 12 batters between both contests. Dickson used seven strikeouts against Colorado Christian to become just the third player in program history to reach 500 career strikeouts.

Kate Paulsen was the lone Eagle to have a multi-hit game, logging a pair of base-knocks in the second game of the day along with an RBI. Maci George carried the mantle as the only OC player to record an RBI in both games.

Game One: No. 21 [4] Oklahoma Christian 4, [8] MSU Denver 1
Oklahoma Christian claimed just one hit through the first five innings as MSU Denver used a single run in the fourth inning to carry a 1-0 lead into the sixth inning.

With two outs in the sixth, a costly fielding error from the Roadrunner first baseman allowed OC to plate two runs for its first lead of the game. With Anderson allowing just one hit over the final two innings, OC added two insurance runs following a Paulsen lead-off double for the 4-1 victory.

Game Two: No. 21 [4] Oklahoma Christian 4, [5] Colorado Christian 1
Colorado Christian threatened early by loading the bases in the first inning, but it was George who got the Eagles on the board first in game two, using a two-out RBI-single to score Anderson in the second frame for the early 1-0 lead.

The Cougars tied it up in the third with their own two-out hit to plate the tying run. The next nine Eagles while nine of the next 10 CCU batters were retired as both pitchers maintained the 1-1 deadlock.

2025 Third Team All-LSC selection Brewster put an end to the offensive draught with a lead-off home run in the sixth inning for her first hit of the day and just her third home run of the season. The rest of the team took Brewster's cue by adding two more runs to open a 4-1 lead, putting OC three outs away from taking revenge on CCU.

Dickson worked her third three-up, three-down inning of the game in the seventh as No. 4 seed Oklahoma Christian advanced to the sub-region final Saturday, May 10, where OC will look to get two wins against top-seed UT Tyler in order to defend its sub-region championship crown.
