Fajardo transfers to OC to continue softball career

OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 21, 2021) – Rebeca Fajardo, a junior-college standout who played last season for one of NCAA Division II's top softball teams, has transferred to Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Shalee Rodriguez said Saturday.

Fajardo, an infielder from Waco, Texas, began her college career at McLennan (Texas) in 2019, hitting .364 with one home run and 24 RBIs. She began the pandemic-shortened 2020 season quickly, hitting .471 with three homers and 23 RBIs in only 20 games.

She spent the 2020-21 academic year at Southern Arkansas, which finished the season ranked No. 18 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's final poll. She appeared in three games for the Muleriders.

At University High School in Waco, she hit .458 with three home runs and 25 RBIs as a senior. She hit .440 with 25 RBIs as a sophomore in 2016, making the Waco Tribune-Herald's Super Centex first-team list. She was a three-time first-team All-District 17-5A selection, a two-time district offensive most valuable player and received honorable mention on the All-State team.

"We are very excited to have Rebeca on our team this year," Rodriguez said. "She put up great stats at McLennan. Every coach I have talked to about Rebeca has told me what a hard worker she is, and they were right! She brings strong characteristics to our infield and brings power to the plate. We are excited she chose OC!"
