TYLER, Texas - After starting the year 3-4, two-time defending national champion No. 22 UT Tyler was one of the hottest teams in the country, going 33-6 since. Two of those losses came Sunday, Apr. 19, as No. 15 Oklahoma Christian snapped UTT's 11-game win streak with a pair of victories, 7-3 and 7-5.
The pair of triumphs also snapped OC's 17-game losing streak at the hands of the Patriots, having never won at Irwin Field prior to Sunday.
Ella Resendiz (10-0) got the start in the circle in game one, continuing her personal win streak, throwing a no-hitter through three innings before allowing just three runs on six hits in 6.2 innings.
Jill Dickson (16-6) picked up her first save of the season after facing just one batter in the opener before getting the complete-game victory in game two.
Kiley Brewster (5-for-9),
Danae Lopez (4-for-7),
Marti Yaerger (3-for-8) and
Madi Drummond (3-for-7) each claimed hits in both ends of Sunday's twin bill to assist in the sweep. Lopez extended her hitting streak to 11 games and her on-base streak to 23 games - tied for the longest such streak since 2022 (Brooklin Bain, 26) - as she added three RBI and two runs scored to her stat line.
No. 15 Oklahoma Christian (36-11, 28-8 LSC)Â will play one final non-conference regular season game Tuesday, Apr. 21 when Northeastern State comes over from Tahlequah, Okla., to Tom Heath Field for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
Game One: No. 15 Oklahoma Christian 7, No. 22 UT Tyler 3
The first four batters of the game reached base for OC, plating two runs before Tyler came to bat. Another two runs came in the third as Resendiz continued to hold the Patriots hitless, striking out two-thirds of the side in the bottom of the third.
The maroon-and-gray's biggest inning came in the fourth as a two-RBI double from Yaerger - her third of the contest - followed an RBI from
Kallie Rupp to open a 7-0 lead on the two-time defending champs.
Tyler broke through with its first two runs of the game in the fourth and put runners on base in each of the final three innings, but the OC defense continued to hold the lead. In the Patriot's final at-bat, UTT loaded the bases as Dickson relieved Resendiz with the tying run on deck, getting the final out to lay claim to the 7-3 win.
Game Two: No. 15 Oklahoma Christian 7, No. 22 UT Tyler 5
Tyler took its turn at opening the big early lead, opening a 5-0 head start after four innings. Nine of OC's 15 hits, however, were set to come in the final three innings, scoring seven unanswered for its second win of the day.
Oklahoma Christian broke through in the fifth thanks to a pair of UT Tyler two-out errors that resulted in three runs, cutting the deficit to two, 5-3. The Eagles tied it up one inning later with a two-RBI from Lopez. Ki. Brewster then came through in the seventh with her own two-RBI double for the 7-5 lead.
UT Tyler delivered a lead-off double followed by a single to bring the game-winning run to the plate with no outs, but back-to-back fielder's choice ground-outs kept the UTT runner at third as a final fly-out to center completed the two-game sweep, 7-5.
