Resendiz Goes Seven in Relief as No. 15 OC Splits Twin Bill

DENTON, Texas - After getting shutout for the first time this season in game one, No. 15 Oklahoma Christian used six unanswered runs in game two to split the Friday doubleheader against Texas Woman's, 2-0 and 6-4.

True freshman Ella Resendiz (9-0) relieved McKenna Ingram with all three outs still to work with in the first inning as the Purcell, Okla., pitching all seven innings for ninth win of the season, recording six strikeouts to just two walks and giving up three hits without a single run.

Resendiz is one decision away from qualifying for the best single-season win percentage by an OC pitcher in program history. 2022's Lindsey Stoeckel holds the record with a .917 (11-1) win percentage in the circle, followed by Kali Crandall in 2020 at .909 (10-1).

Kallie Rupp continued her career season with three RBI on three hits in game two, marking her 20th multi-hit game and ninth multi-RBI game, both of which are tied for the team lead. With seven games remaining in the regular season, Rupp currently has the fifth highest batting average (.436) for a single season in program history.

No. 15 Oklahoma Christian will face its last NFCA top-25 team of the regular season Sunday, Apr. 19 when it meets two-time defending national champion UT Tyler for a 1 and 3 p.m. doubleheader.

Game One: Texas Woman's 2, No. 15 Oklahoma Christian 0
Neither team recorded a hit through the first inning and a half, but a two-out walk and hit by pitch allowed Texas Woman's to deliver a two-RBI double in the bottom of the second for the early 2-0 lead.

The Eagles put runners on second or third base in each of the next two innings, and again in the sixth frame, but were unable to bring any across the plate to suffer its first scoreless outing of the season, falling 2-0.

Game Two: No. 15 Oklahoma Christian 6, Texas Woman's 4
The Pioneers quickly opened a 4-0 lead as all four runs came in the first inning off two home runs before a single out had been recorded. Resendiz promptly came the circle, facing just four batters to keep the damage at four.

Texas Woman's saw just two more hits the rest of the way as OC slowly clawed back with a single run in the second, two more in the fourth and the go-ahead runs in the sixth. Marti Yaerger, who had been 0-3 coming into her final at-bat, delivered the Eagles' second double of the sixth inning m, using a three-spot in the frame to seize its first lead of the afternoon, 6-4.

Now sporting a two-run lead, Resendiz retired the final six TWU batters in order, three of which came via punch out.
