SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (April 28, 2021) – Lisa Zamroz, a former standout player and assistant coach at Oklahoma Christian, has been named as the women's basketball head coach at The Master's (Calif.), a NAIA university in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Zamroz grew up in Tulsa, Okla., and graduated from Union High School (where she earned All-State honors) in 2006. She spent two years at The Master's before transferring to OC in 2008.
Then known as Lisa Chenoweth, she started for the Lady Eagles for two seasons at guard, helping OC reach the NAIA Division I quarterfinals as a senior in 2010, earning All-Sooner Athletic Conference third-team honors and being named as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. She graduated from OC with a bachelor of science degree in Sports, Wellness and Recreation Management in 2010.
She joined the OC basketball staff as an assistant to head coach
Stephanie Findley in June 2011 and spent five seasons in that role as the program transitioned from the NAIA in NCAA Division II. During that time, the Lady Eagles won National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region titles in 2013 and 2014.
"TMU made a great choice," Findley said. "You can't find a better high-character, basketball IQ person than Lisa. She is a winner on and off the court and her players and teams will be as well. She will be a wonderful influence for players who pass through her program. I am proud to call her an alum, former assistant, and friend."
Zamroz served as an assistant coach for The Master's during the 2019-20 season, during which the Mustangs were ranked No. 1 in the NAIA for the first time in program history and won a program-record 29 games. The Master's went 7-5 during the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season, during which Zamroz was not on the basketball staff.
"It will be a joy and tremendous blessing to have the opportunity to train and disciple young women in the context of athletics, helping them use their gifts and desires as an act of worship to the Lord," Zamroz said.
"Successful coaches combine character and competency. I believe professional diligence and preparedness, united with exemplary character and intentional discipleship, puts players in the very best position to succeed athletically and to grow into all that the Lord has called them to be on and off the court."
Kelvin Starr, the athletic director at The Master's, said Zamroz would be a "tremendous addition" to that university's staff because "her desire for discipleship is evident and she is a natural leader."
Zamroz is one of three OC women's basketball alumni presently serving as a collegiate head coach, joining Findley and Tasha (Turney) Diesselhorst at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
