Former Moore HS hoops standout Day transfers to OC

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 22, 2021) – Ashanti Day, a former standout guard for Moore High School who began her collegiate basketball career at Newman (Kan.), has transferred to Oklahoma Christian, OC coach Stephanie Findley said Thursday.

Day, a 5-foot-5 point guard, was a key player on the Moore team that posted a 21-5 record and qualified for the Class 6A state tournament in 2020 before the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a senior, she made the All-State list produced by the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association and was an All-State honorable mention selection and Big All-City third-team honoree by The Oklahoman. She also ranked in the top five in Class 6A in both steals and assists. One of her high school teammates was current OC signee Peyton Andrews.

Day signed with Newman but did not play during the 2020-21 season. She will have four seasons of eligibility with the Lady Eagles.

"Ashanti is a quick point guard with good ball-handling skills," Findley said. "She penetrates and finishes well and can finish in a variety of ways. She's a strong defender who rebounds her position very well."

Day is the fifth player to join OC's squad for the 2021-22 season, joining junior-college transfer Macy Smith (from Murray State) and incoming freshmen Lexy Borgstadt of Verdigris, Kate Bradley of Bixby and Andrews.
