HYDRO, Okla. (Nov. 25, 2021) – Rees Berkey and Kira Berkey, twin sisters who have led Hydro-Eakly High School to the last two Class A girls basketball titles, each has signed a letter of intent to play collegiately at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach
Stephanie Findley said Thursday.
Rees, a 5-foot-10 forward, averaged 13.2 points per game as a junior during the 2020-21 season, making
The Oklahoman's Super 5 All-State third-team list as well as the newspaper's Class A All-State first-team list. This past March, Rees had 18 points in 69-48 Class A title-game win over previously unbeaten Vanoss, a team that entered that game with an average winning margin of 51.1 points per game.
Kira, a 5-foot-5 guard, averaged 12.8 points per game last season and received honorable mention on
The Oklahoman's Class A All-State list.
"We are excited to have both of these proven winners on campus next year," Findley said. "My favorite thing about them is how hard they play. Their effort is off the charts every play.
"Rees is a strong, physical forward who can shoot the three and finish at the rim in different ways. She can also handle the ball very well. Kira can play the point or the two-guard. She is a tenacious defender with great speed. She is a good 3-point shooter who can also get to the rim with her speed. I can't wait to infuse their energy into our team!"
Two of the Berkeys' older brothers already are collegiate athletes. Cade Berkey is a freshman on OC's cross country and track and field teams, while Leif Berkey plays baseball at Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.).
They will join Shiloh Fletcher, a point guard from another Oklahoma small-school power, Howe, in OC's signing class for the 2022-23 season. Howe won last season's Class 2A title.
