MIDLAND, Texas (May 18, 2020) – Erica James, a California prep standout who's spent the last two basketball seasons at Midland (Texas) College, has signed to continue her collegiate career at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach
Stephanie Findley said Monday.
James, a 5-foot-10 guard from Elk Grove, Calif., averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore on a strong Midland squad that went 21-8. She shot 38.2 percent from the field, including 32.5 percent from 3-point range.
As a senior at Elk Grove High School, she averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and was chosen to play in the Optimist All-Star game, which features top seniors from schools located in the Sacramento, Calif., area.
"Erica is a tall guard," Findley said. "She can play the two or three position. She is a solid shooter from midrange or the 3-point line, but what we like best is her potential to be a defensive stopper. Her length, speed and agility meant she drew some of the tougher defensive assignments against her junior-college opponents. We think she can do that for us, too. We are excited about the athleticism and energy Erica will bring to our team!"
James is the eighth player to sign with OC for the 2020-21 season, joining center Lia Mikiashvili of Rustavi, Georgia, forwards Atlanta Hopgood of Oklahoma City, Kana Rackley of Mounds, Okla., and Antonia Kovacevic of Split, Croatia, and Frank Phillips (Texas) College and guards Brooklin Bain of Comanche, Okla., Kayton Kite of Norman, Okla., and Samantha Good of Ryan, Okla.
