HARRAH, Okla. (May 14, 2019) – Hope Heinen, a former basketball and soccer player at Oklahoma Christian, has been named as the head girls basketball coach at Harrah High School.

The Harrah school board approved Heinen's hiring on Monday night. She had worked as an assistant at Mustang High School for the past five seasons, and this season, the Broncos went 20-9 and upset nationally ranked (and Oklahoma Class 6A No. 1-ranked) Putnam City West in the state tournament to advance to the semifinals.

Harrah long has had a successful girls basketball program. In 2017-18, the Panthers went 28-1 and won the Class 4A state title, with current OC point guard Maddison Collyer leading the way. Last season, Harrah posted a 14-12 record.

"The rich tradition that this program has maintained is incredible," Heinen said. "I am so excited to start working with this community and building a program of my own!"

OC's connections with Harrah basketball go back years. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, brothers Cary Manek and Craig Manek played for the Eagles, and one of their teammates, Bryan Jennings, went on to spend more than a decade as Harrah's boys coach. More recently, Collyer arrived at OC two years ago and quickly earned a spot in the Lady Eagles' starting lineup.

Heinen, a 5-foot-11 forward-center from Edmond, played two basketball seasons at OC, in 2010-11 and 2011-12, appearing in 40 games and averaging 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. She spent four seasons on OC's soccer team (2008-2011), scoring 15 goals and recording seven assists in 67 games.
