ADA, Okla. (April 26, 2019) – Shelby Garrett, a versatile guard and defensive standout for Latta High School, has signed to play college basketball at Oklahoma Christian, OC coach
Stephanie Findley said Friday.
Garrett, along with another OC signee, Emma Epperly, teamed to lead Latta to the Class 2A girls semifinals this season. Serving as Latta's primary ballhandler, the 5-foot-8 Garrett averaged 7.0 points per game.
She averaged 5.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game during the regular season, but increased her production to 13.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game during seven postseason games as Latta finished 25-7. Garrett received honorable mention on
The Oklahoman's Class 2A All-State list.
"We like the way Shelby shoots the three," Findley said. "She can shoot from deep and can hit the pressure shot. She is a natural (shooting) guard but had to play point guard this year for Latta, so we like the versatility she offers in that regard. She did a very good job of running their team and handling the ball in pressure situations.
"Defensively, she was always assigned to the opponent's best guard and did a great job. I'm looking forward to watching her and Emma play together at this level."
Garrett is the third player to sign with OC for the 2019-20 season, joining Epperly and Amaya Buchanan from Katy, Texas.
