CULVER CITY, Calif. (March 20, 2019) –
Madison Hagood's string of sensational performances last week earned her recognition from
FastpitchNews.com as its NCAA Division II pitcher of the week.
It's the first time Hagood, a senior left-hander from Comanche, Texas, has received a national weekly honor. The FastpitchNews.com award came in the wake of her fifth career Heartland Conference player-of-the-week award, which was announced Tuesday.
Hagood went 4-0 with three complete games as the Eagles swept Fort Hays State (1-0, 1-0) and Texas A&M International (3-1, 6-3, 11-0) to move to 21-5 on the season.
She pitched a complete-game three-hitter with a season-high nine strikeouts in the opener against Fort Hays State, then pitched a perfect inning of relief in the second game to earn the win.
She allowed two hits with eight strikeouts in the 3-1 win over TAMIU and ended the week with a two-hit shutout in the 11-0 win over the Dustdevils, during which no TAMIU runner advanced past second base.
In 20 innings, she gave up only seven hits and one run while recording 21 strikeouts. She is 10-2 on the season with a 1.98 ERA.
She is the third OC player this season to win a national weekly honor.
Brie Dunckel was named as the
FastpitchNews.com Division II hitter of the week after the season's opening week, while
Kaylie Upton received the
National Fastpitch Coaches Association's Division II hitter-of-the-week honor for the same week.
