CULVER CITY, Calif. (Feb. 6, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian softball player Brie Dunckel has been named as the FastpitchNews.com NCAA Division II national player of the week.

Dunckel, a junior infielder from Valley Center, Calif., starred for the Lady Eagles as they went 4-0 in the TAJ Hospitality College Softball Kickoff in Lubbock, Texas, beating Western New Mexico 6-1, Chadron State (Neb.) 7-1, Midwestern State (Texas) 11-3 and Texas-Permian Basin 15-1.

Dunckel hit .692 (9 for 13) in the four games with a double, three RBIs, 11 runs scores and four stolen bases in as many attempts. She went 4 for 5 and scored four times in the win over UTPB.

She is in her first season at OC after transferring from Colorado Christian, where she played for current OC coach Shanon Hays. Dunckel is the first OC player ever to win the FastpitchNews.com national award.

"Brie has gotten off to a great start," Hays said. "She has been a super table-setter and been able to steal bases and score runs. Hopefully, she can stay healthy and be a force for us at the top of the order. It's great to see her get this national recognition!"
