OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 7, 2019) – Coming off a season in which his program won the Heartland Conference regular-season and postseason titles, Oklahoma Christian softball coach
Shanon Hays announced the Eagles' schedule for the 2020 campaign on Thursday.
OC, which went 40-16 and advanced to a NCAA Division II regional championship round, will move into the Lone Star Conference, Division II's toughest softball league, for the 2020 season. Five LSC teams – Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Commerce, West Texas A&M, Tarleton State (Texas) and Cameron – made the Division II tournament last season, as did OC.
The Eagles will open the season in Las Vegas with five games in the Desert Stinger, a premier early season event for NCAA Division II programs. On Jan. 31, OC will face Central Washington and event host Montana State-Billings, then will play San Francisco State and Western Oregon on Feb. 1 and Regis (Colo.) on Feb. 2. Central Washington, San Francisco State and Western Oregon all made the Division II tournament field in 2019.
Over the next three weekends in February, OC will co-host (with Central Oklahoma) the third annual Edmond Regional Festival, which will bring in teams from five states to compete on the turf fields at the two facilities. Forty games will be played at Tom Heath Field over those nine days.
From Feb. 7-9, OC will face Colorado School of Mines and Southwestern Oklahoma State on the 7th, Pittsburg State (Kan.) and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on the 8th and Missouri Southern on the 9th. From Feb. 14-16, the Eagles will host Chadron State (Neb.) and Fort Hays State (Kan.) on the 14th, Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado-Colorado Springs on the 15th and Northeastern State on the 16th.
For the event's final weekend, Feb. 21-23, the Eagles will play Nebraska-Kearney and Pittsburg State on the 21st, Rogers State on the 22nd and Fort Hays State on the 23rd. OC's final nonconference games of the season will be on Feb. 25, when the Eagles host Newman (Kan.).
In LSC play, OC will play a doubleheader against each of the league's 16 teams, for 32 conference games overall. OC will start league play with home doubleheaders against Angelo State (Texas) on Feb. 28 and Lubbock Christian (Texas) on March 1.
OC will visit Texas Woman's on March 6 and Texas A&M-Commerce on March 8 before hosting Midwestern State (Texas) on March 13 and Tarleton State on March 15. OC will travel to West Texas A&M on March 20 and Eastern New Mexico on March 22, then will be at home against Western New Mexico on March 26 and Texas-Permian Basin on March 28.
The Eagles will play at Cameron on March 31 and Texas-Tyler on April 4, host St. Mary's (Texas) on April 16 and St. Edward's (Texas) on April 18 and visit defending regional champion Texas A&M-Kingsville on April 23 and Texas A&M International on April 25.
The 10-team, single-elimination conference tournament will be played May 1-2 at the home field of the Lone Star's regular-season champion.
