Box Score SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 13, 2018) – For the final three quarters, Oklahoma Christian played St. Mary's (Texas) even, but that wasn't enough for the Lady Eagles to undo the damage of the first quarter.
St. Mary's jumped to a 12-point lead and never looked back while beating OC 72-57 on Saturday afternoon at Bill Greehey Arena, holding the Lady Eagles to their lowest point total of the basketball season.
OC (5-12, 1-4 Heartland Conference) had won in its last two visits to St. Mary's (9-9, 3-2), but the Lady Eagles shot a season-low 30.6 percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers, offsetting solid performances from 3-point range (7 of 16, 43.8 percent) and the free-throw line (20 of 26, 76.9 percent).
Only three Lady Eagles scored in double figures – freshmen
Maddison Collyer and
Katie Mayo with 13 points each and junior
Addy Clift with 10 points.
Meanwhile, the Rattlers' Soteria Banks went 10 of 21 from the field and scored 26 points and seemed to provide a basket every time her team needed one.
Banks and Sierra Dixon each hit a 3-pointer in the final 42 seconds of the first quarter, stretching a six-point St. Mary's lead to 12. OC closed within 37-30 in the final minute of the second quarter on a layup by Collyer, but Banks' 3-pointer 11 seconds before halftime gave the Rattlers a 40-30 lead.
OC proved unable to close that gap, trailing by double digits the entire second half.
Arysia Porter added 12 points and six assists for St. Mary's.
The Lady Eagles' five-game road stretch will continue next Saturday, when they will visit No. 3-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas). Away games at Newman (Kan.) on Jan. 27 and St. Edward's (Texas) on Feb. 1 will follow before OC will host Rogers State on Feb. 3.
