Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (April 11, 2015) – The first six Oklahoma Christian batters reached base on Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Panhandle State, and it only got better from there for OC.
The Eagles scored four first-inning runs,
Kolton Brown highlighted a six-run fourth inning with his fourth home run of the week and OC cruised to an 11-0 win on a soggy day at Dobson Field.
Hunter Raley and
Garrett Sumpter combined on a two-hit shutout for OC (24-14, 10-8 Heartland Conference), which completed a three-game sweep of Panhandle State (3-34, 2-16). OC has won five straight baseball games heading into a showdown at home on Tuesday against longtime rival and NAIA power Oklahoma Baptist.
Caden Cleveland keyed OC's first-inning outburst against Panhandle State starter Zack Tingen (0-6) with a two-run single to center field. The Aggies committed three of their six errors during the inning.
Raley (4-3) didn't allow a hit until Nick Crosswhite's fourth-inning single, and Crosswhite was quickly erased when the Eagles turned the first of their three double plays. Bo Ybarra had the Aggies' other hit, a fifth-inning single, and he also was wiped out via double play a batter later.
Sumpter entered the game to start the sixth and didn't allow a baserunner to advance past second base in two innings of work.
OC poured it on offensively again in the fourth, as
Chase Kuwitzky,
Zac Cobble,
Kyle Lacy and
Derek Jones recorded consecutive doubles before Brown fisted a pitch over the left-field wall to finish off the inning.
Brown capped a monster week during which he hit two homers in a win over Southeastern Oklahoma State and another against Oklahoma City University. He had entered the week with three career homers.
In the sixth, OC relief pitcher
Jesse Stephens received a rare at-bat and delivered a run-scoring single to make it 11-0. The game ended after 6½ innings due to the 10-run rule.
The loss extended the Aggies' losing streak to 18 games.
