EDMOND, Okla. - In just his fourth start of the year,
Arlan Koester (2-1) allowed one run on one hit in six innings of work as Oklahoma Christian's offense held up its end of the deal as OC took the series finale in seven innings over Eastern New Mexico, 13-1.
Koester did not allow a hit until the third inning, striking out the first two Greyhound batters he faced in route to a season-high seven-strikeout performance.
Tim Malone pitched the final three outs, facing just four batters.
The Eagle offense rattled off 15 hits in Sunday's matinee, led by
Justin Spencer's three hits as he stood one triple shy of the cycle. The maroon-and-gray recorded three home runs and three doubles in the run-rule victory.
Trey Migl added another two-hit, two-RBI showing to bring his weekend totals to seven hits, six RBI, four runs scored and two home runs, one double and a triple.
As it had all weekend long, Oklahoma Christian got out to a hot start, plating three runs in the first inning. This time, OC kept it up with a three-run, two-hit outing in the second for a 6-0 lead. An RBI-triple in the top of the third was the only contact ENMU made off Koester to cut the deficit to five.
Following the single run, the Eagles responded with seven unanswered as the Greyhounds saw just two more base runners over the final four innings, with Koester working a pair of three-up, three-down frames over that stretch.
With Koester holding the ENMU offense at bay, OC entered run-rule territory in the fourth following four more runs to open a 10-run advantage, 11-1, with five straight hits through the middle of the maroon-and-gray's lineup. Two final runs in the sixth yielded the final tally, 13-1.
Oklahoma Christian (10-24, 10-24 LSC) will hit the road for the second-to-last time this season while remaining in the Sooner State when it heads to Lawton, Okla., to face Cameron in a four-game series beginning Thursday, Apr. 2 at 6 p.m.
