Baseball Run-Rules (RV) St. Edward's in Series Finale, 16-3

EDMOND, Okla. - Behind a six-inning outing from starting pitcher Arlan Koester (1-0) and 13 hits as a team, Oklahoma Christian defeated (RV) St. Edward's in just seven innings in Sunday's series finale, 16-3.

Koester, in just the freshman's second career start, allowed three runs on three hits while striking out four in six innings of work. Brandon Cardenas finished the job with his final scoreless inning of relief work, allowing just one hit while posting one strikeout to one walk.

Tanner Forbus (3-for-3) reached base safely five times in the lead-off spot with three hits and two walks, followed by two-hole hitter Trey Migl (2-for-2) with two hits and a pair of free passes. Reed Thomas (3-for-4) tallied a season-high five RBI, including OC's first grand slam since Justin Spencer in 2024.

Jontae Hennesy (7-for-14) finished the weekend series hitting .500, including a perfect 5-for-5 performance in game two, as the Phoeniz, Ariz., native now leads the team with a .367 average, followed closed behind by Migl (.363) following his 6-for-11 weekend.

St. Edward's threatened early, putting two runners on with just one out, but Koester worked out of the early jam, only to allow a total of three hits and one run through the first four innings. The OC offense took advantage of the strong defense, scoring 16 runs during that time, including a nine-run fourth, seven of which came on two outs.

The Hilltoppers attempted to extend play in the top of the seventh, plating two runs to cut the deficit to 13 before loading the bases with one out to spare, but a Cardenas-issued fly-out to left center ended the game early, 16-3.

Oklahoma Christian (8-18, 8-18 LSC) will take its penultimate road trip to the Lone Star State when it meets (RV) West Texas A&M for a four-game weekend series beginning Friday, Mar. 20 at 4 p.m.
