Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (March 21, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian pitchers continually wriggled out of jams on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field, and as a result the Eagles won another nailbiter against Texas A&M International.
Despite posting only one 1-2-3 defensive inning, the Eagles pulled out a 4-2 win to extend their winning streak to six games and record their second straight Heartland Conference series sweep against the Dustdevils.
OC (15-9, 5-4 Heartland) picked up a solid starting pitching performance from
Hunter Raley (3-2) and strong relief outings from
Jared Price,
Dylon Sturges and
Garett Hill, as that quartet combined to continually frustrate TAMIU (8-16, 1-8). The Dustdevils left 12 runners on base, including two each in the first, second, third, sixth and seventh innings.
Kyle Lacy tripled and
Derek Jones followed with a single to put OC up 1-0 in the first. In the fifth, the Eagles loaded the bases against TAMIU starter Garrett Taggert (0-4) on singles by
Zac Cobble, Lacy and Jones.
Ben McKenzie drew a walk to make it 2-0 before Jones scored on a wild pitch. An RBI groundout by
Brady Baugh gave the Eagles a four-run lead.
The Dustdevils broke through only once, in the seventh, when Daniel Cruz hit a two-run, bases-loaded single. Price settled down to strike out the next two batters, then coaxed a groundout from Erasmo Gonzalez to end the inning.
A double play wiped out TAMIU's only baserunner in the eighth against Sturges before Hill came on to retire the side in order in the ninth to record his first career save.
OC will return to action Tuesday when the Eagles host NCAA Division II power Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m.
