Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 21, 2014) – Martha Thomas had two RBIs and Danielle Collins hit a solo home run as Oklahoma Christian beat Eastern New Mexico 7-5 on Friday afternoon in the Lady Eagles' opening game in the Rattler Softball Invitational.
OC blew a 5-4 lead and lost 8-5 to Midwestern State (Texas) in the Lady Eagles' second game in the eight-team event at The Park at StMU. OC (4-5) will play Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State (Texas) on Saturday and Western Oregon on Sunday.
Against Eastern New Mexico, OC jumped ahead of the Zias in the top of the first, scoring three runs off starting pitcher Cailin Garmon (3-4) on just one hit, a run-scoring single by Thomas.
Eastern New Mexico (6-7) pulled within 3-2 in the bottom of the inning against OC starter Taylor Mosher (2-2), but the Lady Eagles answered with a four-run fourth inning, with Collins homering and Lauren Chatigny delivering a run-scoring triple.
The Zias rallied for three runs in the sixth, but Shea Coats came on to pitch for OC in the seventh and recorded her second save of the season.
Kendra Pierce's three-run home run in the fifth inning against Midwestern State put OC ahead, but the Mustangs rallied for two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings against Coats (2-2) and reliever Krystal Rodriguez.
Midwestern State (9-4) led 2-0 after three innings. OC tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a RBI triple by Lauren Pittman and a run-scoring single by Courtney Starr. The Mustangs answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before Pierce's home run – which followed walks to Chatigny and Monique Elliott – gave OC a 5-4 edge.
RBI singles by Baylee Voigt and Katelyn Potts returned the lead to the Mustangs and Katy Vandewater hit a two-run homer in the sixth to extend Midwestern State's lead to 8-5.
Erin Knox went 3-for-4 to lead Midwestern State's 14-hit attack and also went the distance in the circle to move to 4-2 on the season. Starr had OC's only multiple-hit outing, finishing 2-for-3.
