OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 10, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian scored a huge 91-21 win over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College (Okla.) on Monday night.
The Lady Eagles scored their seventh-largest margin of victory in school history with the 70-point win.
In addition, OC allowed the second-fewest points in program history. The fewest points ever allowed by the Lady Eagles is 19, which came in 2004-05 with a 122-19 win over Arkansas Baptist University.
The Lady Eagles (3-0) came out playing aggressive defensive, but struggled to score early in the first half. At the 10:45 mark the score was 8-7 in favor of the Lady Eagles.
Shortly after however, Lisa Chenoweth hit a three-point shot, followed by two three pointers from Katy Clift, and just like the Lady Eagles were up 17-7.
The hot-shooting streak continued for the Lady Eagles as they hit eight of their next 14 shots from three-point distance to ignite a 39-5 run.
Getting into the act offensively in the first half were Haley Myers with nine points, while Clift, Lindsey Gipson, and Kailan DeCamp had eight points apiece. Chenoweth added seven points.
The Lady Eagle lead was 48-12 at the half. The Lady Eagles forced 11 turnovers in the first half.
Gipson hit a three pointer to open the second half and spark another Lady Eagle run. This time it was a 21-0 run that stretched the lead to 71-12. When the dust cleared OC had gone on a 63-5 scoring run that spanned the end of the first half and beginning of the second stanza.
The Lady Eagles continued to dominate the game on offense, shooting 60 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range. The team also tallied 22 assists to only 12 turnovers.
Gipson, Chenoweth and DeCamp led all scores in the game, with 11 points each. Clift added 10 points, Myers had nine points, Hillary Duncan and Charlotte Heron both added eight points and Jordan Findley finished with seven points.
The story of the game, however, was the Lady Eagles' defense. The team had 17 steals, forced 31 turnovers, and also added five blocked shots.
Clift and DeCamp led the way in steals with four each, while Heron posted three blocks.
The Lady Eagles don't get much time to celebrate the win, as the team travels to Norman, Okla., tomorrow to play the University of Oklahoma. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. inside OU's Lloyd Noble Center.
