No. 21 Oklahoma Christian University defeated 18th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University 47-43 to improve to 3-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play here Thursday night Jan. 9.

The 47 points represented the lowest winning score for the Lady Eagles since the 1983-84 season (OC 46, Southern Nazarene 35).

Neither team led by more than seven points in a game that saw four ties and 12 lead changes.

Both clubs struggled from the field in the first half, each shooting below 25 percent. With 10 minutes to go in the half, Oklahoma Baptist held a narrow 9-7 lead. The game went into halftime tied at 16 after OC senior Rachel Martin drained a 16-footer as time expired.

OC took its largest lead of the game just 1:30 into the second half when Mackenzie Walker's three-pointer made the score 21-16.

After the Lady Bison reclaimed the lead, the Lady Eagles nabbed it back when Katie Fariss scored five points in under 30 seconds.

First, at the 8:28 mark, the senior scored in the lane to cut the deficit to 31-30. Fariss, OC's all-time leading three-point shooter, then nailed a three at the 8:05 mark to give OC a 33-31 lead.

OC held the lead until the 3:27 mark when OBU's Jennifer Jupin hit a three-point shot to put the Lady Bison back ahead 42-41.

But OC retook the advantage for good at 44-43 on a pair of Fariss free throws with 1:07 left.

The Lady Eagles wrapped the win up in style when freshman Danielle Cox scored and was fouled off a long outlet from fellow freshman Kailan DeCamp with 17.5 seconds on the clock.

Fresh off being named SAC Women's Player of the Week, Martin finished with a game-high 16 points. Fariss was the only other Lady Eagle in double figures with 10. DeCamp added nine points while Charlotte Heron grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles' and Eagles' doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13 at Northwestern Oklahoma State has been postponed due to the ice storm that hit the state on Friday. The games have been rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Unless the weather causes further postponements, OC's next games will be at USAO in Chickasha on Thursday, Jan. 18. The women's game will tip at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
