The Lady Eagles went to Lubbock Christian Thursday with hopes of their first Sooner Athletic Conference championship since 1991, but it was LCU that clinched the title with an 88-63 win.
LCU (15-2, 24-4) earned at least a share of its first league crown with a 64 percent shooting effort in the second half.
The Lady Eagles (13-4, 20-6) saw their hopes dashed with another turnover-filled game. OC committed 24 turnovers after having 31 in Saturday's 63-44 loss at Oklahoma City.
The Lady Chaps broke open a close game with an 8-0 run midway through the first half. Ashley Hunter reeled off five straight points, followed by a Sierra Wilcox three-pointer that gave LCU a 26-15 lead.
LCU held a 37-27 advantage at halftime, and pushed the lead to 66-39 with a 22-6 run early in the second half. The Lady Chaps scored 11 straight points to start the streak, which was triggered by a traditional three-point play by Brandi Raindl and a long-distance three from Hunter.
The Lady Eagles, who rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat LCU on the road last season, couldn't overcome their turnovers and the Lady Chaps' hot shooting this time around.
OC shot 44 percent for the game, but just 22 percent from three-point range. Rachel Martin led OC with 21 points, followed by Kailan DeCamp's 13 and Danielle Cox's 12.
Hunter led the Lady Chaps with 20 points. Wilcox scored 17, Jordan Hampton tallied 16 and Talita Aguiar and Kim Lloyd totaled 10 points each.
LCU, which clinched the No. 1 seed in next week's Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, will be the outright regular-season champion with a win over Southern Nazarene (14-3, 23-5) on Saturday. A Crimson Storm win will give SNU a share of the conference title.
The Lady Eagles wrap up the regular season at Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday. An OC win combined with an SNU loss will make the Lady Eagles the No. 2 seed. If SNU wins or OC loses, the Lady Eagles will be seeded third.
