Lady Eagles light it up, trounce USAO

The OC women's basketball team won its 10th conference game of the season, defeating Science and Arts of Oklahoma here 83-68 Thursday night.

Rachel Martin scored a career-high 31 points, marking the fourth time in five games the SAC's leading scorer eclipsed the 20-point plateau. Martin finished the game a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc and 10-of-10 from the foul line.

OC, ranked 15th in the nation, is 17-4 overall and 10-2 in SAC play. The Lady Eagles remain tied with Lubbock Christian and Southern Nazarene for first place in the conference.

The Lady Eagles led the entire first half and took their largest lead of the half at 21-9 when freshman Traci Murphree canned a three-pointer from the corner at the 10:34 mark. USAO responded with an 11-0 run over the next four minutes and cut the lead to 21-20 with 6:50 remaining.

OC took a 39-36 lead into intermission, but the Lady Drovers came out hot in the second half and took their first lead of the game at 51-48 when Kartesha Rambo sunk a three-pointer.

USAO extended the lead to six before OC charged back and took the lead for good at the 10:06 mark when Kailan DeCamp scored off the glass to make the score 60-58.

OC outscored USAO 23-10 in the game's final 10 minutes and cruised to the 83-68 win.

The 83 points marked the highest point total by the Lady Eagles in the conference season and their third-highest of the year.

Katie Farris recorded her third straight double-double and her eighth of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Walker tied her career high with 15 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting. Charlotte Heron added 10 points while DeCamp finished with 10 rebounds and five assists. Lindsey Monroe led USAO with 13 points.

The Lady Eagles finished the game 13-of-18 (.722) from three-point range, setting a new single-game school record for three-point percentage. The 13 treys fell one short of the single-game school record.

OC plays Saturday at St. Gregory's. The women's game will tip at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8 p.m.

The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Cavaliers 75-47 Jan. 20 in the Eagles' Nest.
