No. 15 Oklahoma Christian overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to beat No. 18 Southern Nazarene 66-63 Monday in a battle of first-place teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The win keeps Oklahoma Christian (19-4 overall) tied atop the conference with Lubbock Christian at 12-2 in league play. SNU falls into third place at 11-3 and 20-5.
SNU built an early 13-3 advantage in Monday's showdown, but OC chipped away and trailed just 27-22 at halftime.
The visiting Crimson Storm answered at the start of the second half, building its biggest lead with a 10-0 run behind two baskets by Tejana Elmore and three points each from Mara Kee and Khady Ngom.
The Lady Eagles came charging back, and took their first lead at 46-45 when Kailan DeCamp made a three-pointer with 8:26 remaining. The lead traded hands four more times in a frantic finish that also featured five ties.
OC trailed 59-57 when DeCamp hit a tying shot with 1:19 left. Two Katie Fariss free throws gave the Lady Eagles a 61-59 lead, but Ngom answered with two foul shots of her own.
A DeCamp free throw put OC back on top by one with 40 seconds remaining. Elmore missed a potential go-ahead shot on the other end, and DeCamp pushed OC's lead to 64-61 when she hit two more free throws with 19 seconds left.
Elmore trimmed the lead to 64-63 when she put back an errant three-point attempt by Kinzie Glover in the closing seconds. But SNU couldn't get off a shot after two Fariss free throws with 0.8 left, giving the Lady Eagles the huge comeback win.
DeCamp led the Lady Eagles with her first career double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Rachel Martin shared the team scoring lead with 16 points. Fariss added 13 and Lindsey Gipson scored 10.
Elmore led all scorers with 23 points. Ngom tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Storm lost to Oklahoma Christian for the fourth straight time.
