Lady Eagles open with Homecoming win

The 22nd-ranked Oklahoma Christian University women's basketball team began the 2006-07 season with a decisive 72-47 Homecoming victory over Texas Wesleyan here Nov. 4.

The Lady Eagles never trailed in the game and took a 30-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. OC's lead passed the 20-point mark with 7:12 remaining in the second half when senior All-American Rachel Martin connected on a long two-pointer.

Senior forward Katie Farris led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field. Martin added 16 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Mackenzie Walker netted eight points on 2-of-4 shooting from three-point range while Charlotte Heron snatched 10 rebounds and blocked three TWU shots.

The victory was the 17th consecutive season opening win for the Lady Eagles and head coach Stephanie Findley. Findley has guided OC to seven consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances.

OC's next contest comes next Saturday, November 11 at home vs. Southwest Assemblies of God. The game tips off at 6 p.m.
