No. 18 Oklahoma Christian advanced to the semifinals of the Orthopedic Solutions Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament with an 87-77 victory over Science and Arts of Oklahoma Thursday night.
Senior Katie Fariss, fresh off setting a career high in points with 30 on Feb. 24 at Wayland Baptist, set a new mark with 31 points vs. USAO. Fariss' performance came on the heels of being selected to the All-SAC First Team this week.
Rachel Martin, a fellow SAC First-Teamer and conference Co-Player of the Year/Defensive Player of the Year, scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Lady Drovers took a 6-0 lead in the game and held the advantage for the game's opening 9:30.
Danielle Cox scored for OC to tie the score at 15 with 11:30 on the clock and the Lady Eagles took the lead for good at 20-17 when Farris converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 10:38 remaining.
OC took a 46-32 lead into the break, shooting 53 percent in the first half compared to the Lady Drovers' 42 percent.
OC extended the lead to the largest of the game at 60-42 with 13:25 left when Gipson and Farris made 4-of-4 foul shots after personal and technical fouls on USAO.
USAO responded with a 19-4 run over the next five minutes to pull as close as six points. OC got a three from Fariss at the 8:20 mark to move the lead to 67-58 and Kailan DeCamp, Fariss and Martin made 10-of-12 charity tosses in the contest's final 1:36 to secure the win.
OC was 30-of-35 (86 percent) from the foul line in the game. Danielle Cox joined Fariss and Martin in double figures with 10 points. Lamitra Daggs led the Lady Drovers in scoring with 17.
The Lady Eagles square off in the semifinals with No. 2 seed Southern Nazarene at 3 p.m. Saturday. OC swept the season series with SNU, the co-champions in the conference. All SAC tournament games are being played in the Eagles' Nest.
