Lady Eagles, Eagles take home openers

OC-HTU Highlights

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 7, 2009) – The Oklahoma Christian men's and women's basketball teams both gave previews of the year ahead tallying two landslide victories against Huston-Tillotson University in Saturday afternoon's Homecoming games.

In their first game of the season, the Lady Eagles demonstrated their finesse from the start. The OC women were only behind once during the whole game at a deficit of one point.

OC's Hillary Duncan returned from last season's injury with no hesitation, heading straight to the goal time and again. Duncan, along with teammate Brittney Kennedy, got the ball rolling for the Lady Eagles tallying six and eight points, respectively, in the first half. Freshman Roz Hamilton also added six points to the Lady Eagles' score before the half.

The Lady Eagles led by as many as 18 points in the first half.

The OC women refused to relent in the second half scoring another 46 points. McCown controlled the paint adding an additional 10 points in the second half leading the Eagles with 14 for the game.

Duncan, Kennedy, and Hamilton all put up double-digit points with Hamilton grabbing 13 rebounds as well. During the second half, the Lady Eagles led Huston-Tillotson by up to 21 points and never allowed them within a 12 point lead.

The final score of the game resulted in an 84-63 win by the Lady Eagles to give them a 1-0 start to the season.

The Eagles took to the floor in a similar manner catching their stride from tip-off. Jeff Crocker set the pace for the Eagles draining several long shots off the bat tallying 15 points in all for the first half netting three out of five three-point shots.

Jason Taylor also felt quite at home down low putting up 10 points in the first half contributing to the Eagles' run. The Eagles never lost their lead from the start of the game running up to a 21 point lead during the half.

OC continued to drop basket after basket in the second half shooting 53 percent from the field for the game. Every player on the men's team saw time in the game with major contributions from freshman Devan White grabbing six points and shoveling out six assists along with junior Chad Endres draining nine points and handing out three assists.

The Eagles led by as many as 28 points during the game several times and never allowed HTU within 18 points during the second half.

The Eagles finished the game with a 87-69 victory over Huston-Tillotson and a 1-0 record to get the season off on the right foot.

The Lady Eagles head to Norman to play the University of Oklahoma in an exhibition game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with Eagles hosting Texas Wesleyan University at 8 p.m. in the Eagles' Nest.
