The Lady Eagles and Eagles closed out their regular-season home schedule in style with victories over John Brown Thursday night.
OC's women won 66-45 behind 22 points and nine rebounds from Rachel Martin. Keith Harris scored 23 points and Charles Baldwin had 21 as OC's men claimed a 70-64 win.
The Lady Eagles never trailed and and led the whole way except for an early 2-2 tie. After OC jumped out a 20-11 lead, John Brown reeled off seven straight points to pull within 20-18.
But the Lady Eagles grabbed control with a 15-2 run to end the first half. Martin scored six of her 13 first-half points during the run. OC took a 35-20 lead into the halftime break.
The Lady Eagles quickly extended their advantage to 47-24, with Martin's seven points fueling OC's 12-4 run to begin the second half. JBU drew no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Fariss joined Martin in double figures with 11 points while nabbing eight rebounds. The Lady Eagles (13-2, 20-4) shot 50 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range as they remained in a tie for first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with Lubbock Christian.
In the men's game, the Eagles (7-8, 13-12) held off a hard-charging JBU team thanks in large part to seven offensive rebounds and 13 second-chance points in the second half.
OC led almost the entire way, and took a 42-30 edge when Baldwin nailed a three-pointer from the right corner at the halftime buzzer.
Eight points from JBU's Joel Tesis quickly tightened the game at 44-38, and the Golden Eagles pulled within 51-47 on two three-pointers from Cody Page and another trey by James Manthe.
After Harris and Baldwin combined on an 8-0 run that again put OC up by 12 at 59-47, a three-point barrage by JBU tied it at 61-61 with 5:14 remaining. Adam Workman made a trio of three-pointers and Page added another as the Golden Eagles drew even.
But the Eagles ended Senior Night on a high note. A three-point play by Baldwin gave OC a 64-61 lead. After Tesis scored, Micah Miles put back a Baldwin miss to make it 66-63.
Free throws by Kyle Tefft and Baldwin in the final minute clinched the Eagle victory. Miles and Nottley put the finishing touches on the win with back-to-back blocked shots of Tesis and Page in the closing seconds.
Tefft joined Harris and Baldwin in double figures with 11 points. Baldwin grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. The Eagles, the fourth-best free throw shooting team in the NAIA, made 16-of-17 foul shots in the victory.
Eight OC seniors - Baldwin, Harris, Miles, Nottley, Fariss, Martin, Abbie Tiffany and Mackenzie Walker - played their last regular-season game at the Eagles' Nest.
OC closes the regular season with a three-game road trip, beginning Saturday night at Oklahoma City University in the second installment of the "Backyard Brawl." The women's game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m.
After road games at LCU and Wayland Baptist, the Eagles and Lady Eagles will return to the Eagles' Nest as Oklahoma Christian hosts the SAC postseason tournament March 1-6.
