Winning on the road, Oklahoma Christian withstood a late rally by USAO to post a 74-68 victory in Chickasha Jan. 15.
The Drovers closed the gap to two points, 70-68 before junior Tasha Turney connected on a pair of free throws and junior Lauren Decker added two more in the final minute of play to give the Lady Eagles their 14th victory against four losses. The win raises OC's conference record to 4-1.
Turney and sophomore Jennifer Haynes keyed the Lady Eagles in the opening half to generate a 33-29 margin at intermission. Katie Fariss' three-pointers and jumpers by Decker and sophomore Rachel Martin helped build a 56-49 lead midway in the final period. Success at the free throw line enabled USAO to close the gap to 70-65 with 1:44 remaining.
Decker, after a slow first half, warmed up to lead the Lady Eagles with 16 points while passing out nine assists. Junior Carlissa Plowden and Martin each scored 11 points and Turney finished with 10. Fariss and Haynes each scored nine points.
