LUBBOCK, Texas (Jan. 10, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian dropped its second-straight game Thursday, losing 59-42 to No. 11 Lubbock Christian.
A 14-0 LCU second-half run ended up being the difference as the Lady Chaps improved to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. OC fell to 7-6 and 3-3.
The loss was just OC's second in the teams' last 12 meetings, but also the second straight. LCU took an 88-63 decision inside the Rip Griffin Center last February.
"We played a great first half, but just gave up too many open looks in the second half," OC head coach Stephanie Findley said. "They're a good team that you just can't give that many good looks to."
OC trailed just once in the first half after the 17:07 mark when Haley Myers' free throws put the Lady Eagles up 6-4.
OC extended the lead to five at 11-6 on Cressi Bryant's three-point shot with 15:39 on the clock.
A Jordan Hampton trey brought LCU to back within two, and another three-pointer from Hampton gave the Lady Chaps their last lead of the half with 14:13 left.
OC and LCU battled through four ties, but no lead changes as OC did not trail again in the half.
OC pushed the lead to four at 26-22 with under two minutes left on a Danielle Cox basket. Another Hampton three in the corner with 10 seconds left cut OC's edge to 26-25 at intermission.
LCU came out hot in the second stanza and took the lead for good on Sierra Wilcox-Lovorn's three-pointer just 10 seconds in.
The Lady Chaps quickly extended the lead to 32-26 before a 6-2 charged keyed by three-pointers from Myers and Lindsey Gipson made it 34-32.
But LCU answered with a 14-0 scoring jaunt. The Lady Eagles shot just 26 percent from the field in the second half as the Lady Chaps took the 17-point win.
OC was paced by Gipson's nine points. Kailan DeCamp added eight while Myers recorded seven.
Hampton, the SAC's leading scorer, led all scorers with 18 points.
OC remains in west Texas, where they will square off with Wayland Baptist on Saturday in Plainview. Game time is set for 1 p.m. WBU defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State 79-42 on Thursday.
