Lady Eagles blow past John Brown

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 19, 2008) - Oklahoma Christian picked up a much needed conference win Saturday night, defeating John Brown University (Ark.) 67-50.

The win puts OC at 4-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play and 8-8 overall. The victory also put an end to a four-game losing streak.

"We were much more patient tonight offensively and rebounded the ball much better," OC head coach Stephanie Findley said. "It feels good to be back home and have everyone relaxed. We need to stay fresh and come out Tuesday ready to go."

The Lady Eagles began the night by forcing a shot clock violation against the Golden Eagles. OC then scored two unanswered baskets to take a quick 4-0 advantage.

OC controlled the beginning of the first half, but JBU came back in the middle of the stanza and took the lead 12-11. 

OC then responded with a 7-0 run. From then on, the Lady Eagles slowly pulled away from the Golden Eagles and led 33-20 at the half.

Kailan DeCamp lead the Lady Eagles into the second half with five unanswered points to start the half.

As the game progressed, the Lady Eagles pulled even further from the Golden Eagles by capitalizing on turnovers and shot opportunities. 

With 7:45 remaining in the second half, OC held a 24-point lead, the largest lead of the game. JBU did not give up, however, and cut the lead to 15 with less than five minutes remaining.

But OC converted at the foul line down the stretch to secure the 15-point win.

OC finished the game 23-of-33 from the foul stripe. Lindsey Gipson made 8-of-10 free throws.

Gipson led the Lady Eagles with 16 points. Decamp followed closely with 14 points. Hillary Duncan and Haley Myers contributed nine and eight points respectively.

JBU's Ashley Taylor led the Golden Eagles with 12 points.

The Lady Eagles have just two days to savor the win before playing at home again on Tuesday against Northwestern Oklahoma State. OC and NWOSU will battle in out at 6 p.m. in women's action. The men will follow at 8 p.m.
