OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Jan. 22, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian used a balanced attack to beat Northwestern Oklahoma State 61-50 Tuesday.
Ten Lady Eagles scored as OC improved to 5-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play and 9-8 overall entering Thursday's showdown with No. 14 Southern Nazarene (Okla.). SNU edged OC 74-72 in Bethany on Dec. 1.
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Northwestern (2-8, 4-12) behind layups from Lindsey Gipson and Kailan DeCamp and a three-pointer from Haley Myers.
Emily Gilbert's two baskets helped NWOSU pull within 11-6 with 13:07 left in the first half, but that's as close as the Lady Rangers got.
A Danielle Cox jumper and treys by Jordan Findley and Cressi Bryant gave OC its first double-digit lead at 19-8 with 8:59 left. The Lady Eagles ran out to a pair of 16-point margins at 26-10 and 31-15 before taking a 15-point bulge into halftime.
A Myers' three-pointer right after the break gave OC its largest advantage at 34-16, but NWOSU hung tough the rest of the way, cutting the lead to eight points on three occasions before losing by 11.
DeCamp led the Lady Eagles with 18 points, followed by Gipson's nine. Devin Sewell grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Two Lady Rangers netted double-doubles. Claudia Vazquez had 13 points and 10 rebounds while D'Shanna Butler had 12 points and 11 boards. Gilbert nabbed 13 rebounds before fouling out late in the game.
