Lady Eagles Win Opener

The Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles rolled out the 2004 model and recorded a fast-paced 79-63 victory over Baker University here Nov. 4.

OC had three players in double figures with Katie Fariss and Edmond's Rachel Martin sharing top honors, each with 20 points. Forward Tasha Turney followed with 14.

With opening game adrenaline affecting both teams the first half was marred by turnovers and forced shooting. With neither team shooting 30 percent Baker went into halftime with a 30-25 lead.

The second half was a different ballgame. Turney quickly connected on a three-point play and Fariss and Martin hit back-to-back three pointers and the Lady Eagles took the lead to stay 37-34, four minutes deep in the final period.

Over a four-minutes stretch beginning at 14:03, Martin pumped in nine points, Turney scored inside and freshman Ciara Carroll hit a short jumper to build a 50-42 lead.

OC point guard Lauren Decker hit a 15-footer to build a 10 point margin at 9:36. Fariss added two three pointers, Martin connect on two free throws and Jennifer Haynes and Carlissa Plowden each hit lay-ups to break the game open 64-46 with 6:17 left to play.

Findley took advantage of her team depth with 14 players seeing time on the floor with nine getting into the scoring column.

Fariss finished the night four of eight from three point range while Martin was three for five. Fariss led all rebounders with nine and Decker dished out eight assists. Erin Robinson led Baker with 15 points.

The Lady Eagles will be back on the court Friday, Nov. 5 with a 6 p.m. game against Arkansas Baptist. College.
