OKLAHOMA CITY (Jan. 10, 2009) – Hillary Duncan had her first career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds as No. 18 Oklahoma Christian beat Mid-America Christian (Okla.) 70-60 to end a three-game losing streak on Saturday.
Duncan matched her career high with 14 points and set a new career mark with 12 boards in her first-career double-double. Brittney Kennedy led OC with 15 points to go with five rebounds.
OC jumped to 11-4 overall and 4-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference games with the win. MACU fell to 6-9 and 1-6.
The Lady Eagles started the game on a 14-4 run and it appeared they might build an even bigger lead. Duncan had seven points in the spurt and Lisa Chenoweth capped it with a conventional three-point play with 11:40 to play.
But MACU fought back into it. The Lady Eagles were up eight points (24-16) when Kelsey Kniffin made a free throw with 6:34 in the half, but MACU sparked a 10-2 rally to close the half. April Hale made three pointers at the 3:40 and 3:08 marks, and OC didn't score in the last four minutes to send the game to a 26-26 halftime stalemate.
Duncan led the Lady Eagles at the break with nine points. Hale had 12 for MACU on 3-of-3 three-point shooting.
OC and MACU played through two lead changes and two ties in the first five minutes of the second half. After Hale tied it at 36-36 with another trey, OC finally got a little breathing room with six straight points to lead 42-36 by the 12:27 point and the Lady Evangels never got closer than four points the rest of the way.
OC took its first double-digit edge since the 11:40 mark of the first half when Kailan DeCamp knocked down a triple from the corner with 3:21 to play to up the score to 61-50.
OC hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 1:22 to secure the win. Kniffin made four of the charity tosses en route to a career-best nine points. DeCamp reached double figures with 10 points while Gipson dropped eight. Hale came off the bench to lead all scorers with 22 points on a perfect 5-of-5 effort from downtown.
OC held MACU to just 35-percent shooting (21-of-60), but the Lady Eagles made only 37 percent of their shots (20-of-54).OC had another great game at the foul line with a 29-of-35 showing (82.9 percent). The 29 foul shots were the second most this season for the Lady Eagles.
OC plays at No. 19 Southern Nazarene (Okla.) in an important SAC matchup on Jan. 15. The Lady Eagles and Crimson Storm will tip at 6 p.m. in Bethany.
