Lady Eagles rally for incredible road win

There was no mountain high enough for the Lady Eagles in the South Plains Saturday. A late 20-3 run carried OC to an 83-78 win at Lubbock Christian.

Oklahoma Christian trailed by as many 18 points in the game as LCU shot 65 percent in the first half. But the Lady Eagles heated up, shooting 62 percent after intermission to rally past the Lady Chaps.

LCU led 72-61 in the final minutes when OC rattled off nine straight points to cut the lead to two with 2:46 remaining. After the teams exchanged free throws, Tasha Turney scored inside to tie the game at 74.

Two Rachel Martin free throws put the Lady Eagles on top to stay, 76-75. A putback by Carlissa Plowden and free throws by Katie Fariss and Lauren Decker in the final minute clinched the comeback victory.

Decker led Oklahoma Christian with 22 points. Turney, Martin and Fariss also scored in double figures. The Lady Eagles made 27-of-32 free throws in the game.

"This is unbelievable," Coach Stephanie Findley said. "We just said to keep fighting in the huddle, but they were shooting the ball so well, we weren't sure we'd be able to overcome it. This is such a comeback. Hopefully, this will spur us on to bigger and better things."

The Lady Eagles, ranked 12th in the nation, improved to 19-6 overall and 12-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. LCU fell to 15-9 and 9-5.
