RSU hands OC fourth-straight loss

CLAREMORE, Okla. (Jan. 17, 2008) – Rogers State (Okla.) outgunned Oklahoma Christian 67-64 Thursday, sending the Lady Eagles to their fourth-straight loss.

It is OC's first four-game losing streak since 1993-94. The Lady Eagles dropped to 3-5 in the Sooner Athletic Conference and 7-8 overall, the first time they have been under .500 this late in the season since 1997-98.

Down 65-64, Oklahoma Christian had a chance to win in the closing seconds, but Lindsey Gipson couldn't connect with Charlotte Heron down low, turning the ball over to RSU with 1.9 seconds left.

Hunter Peterson's two free throws on the other end gave the Lady Hillcats the three-point win, evening their records at 4-4 in the SAC and 8-8 overall.

The Lady Hillcats jumped out to an early 15-9 lead, sparked by Yoda Woods' six points and three-pointers by Breck Muller and Peterson.

The Lady Eagles clawed back and tied the game 16-16 on a Gipson runner, then took a 21-20 lead with 9:15 left on a Heron bank shot.

The lead seesawed back and forth over the next two minutes before a 6-0 run gave RSU a 28-23 advantage with 6:42 remaining.

Oklahoma Christian pulled back within one point on three occasions, but the Lady Hillcats took a 37-34 lead into halftime.

Tasha Parker scored seven points over the first six minutes of the second half to help RSU take its biggest lead of the game at 49-40.

Danielle Cox scored all of OC's points in a 7-2 spurt that again cut the deficit to one at 52-51 with 9:09 left.

The game remained tight the rest of the way, but RSU never relinquished the lead. Azzie Knox scored inside with 2:00 left to make it 65-60 before baskets by Kailan DeCamp and Gipson set up the final sequence.

Gipson led the Lady Eagles with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Cox (12 points) and DeCamp (11 points) also scored in double figures for OC.

Woods scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead RSU.

Oklahoma Christian returns home Saturday to play John Brown (Ark.) at 6 p.m. in the first half of a women's/men's doubleheader.
