Brady Page made two free throws with 0.5 seconds left to lift No. 19 Oklahoma Christian to a 63-61 win over No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist Saturday.
In the women's game, No. 24 OBU upset No. 8 Oklahoma Christian 72-66, ending the Lady Eagles' undefeated start to Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The men's game featured 13 lead changes and 10 ties in one of the more exciting contests in the storied OC-OBU rivalry.
Page set up his game-winning free throws by stealing an inbounds pass underneath OBU's basket with 1.8 seconds remaining. Jason Bray fouled Page, giving him the chance to win a game that otherwise would have gone to overtime.
After a 29-29 halftime tie, OBU took an early second-half lead and held a slim edge for most of the final period.
The Bison led 55-49 when Dillon Ripley hit his first three-pointer of the season to cut the Eagles' deficit to three. Then with 4:17 left, Charles Baldwin penetrated, scored on an acrobatic reverse layup and was fouled. His free throw tied the score at 55-55.
The teams traded a couple of baskets, then Frank Benson scored with 1:10 remaining to give OBU a 61-59 lead. Ripley answered by making both ends of a one-and-one to set up the frantic finish.
Page's clinching free throws gave him a team-high 24 points. He also had seven rebounds, three assists and two crucial steals. Ripley added 13 points for the Eagles. OBU's Frank Benson led all scorers with 25 points.
The Bison fell to 19-2 overall and 7-2 in SAC play. The Eagles, who bounced back from a dismal 32-point performance on Thursday at Northwestern Oklahoma State, moved to 15-5 and 5-4.
After opening the conference season an all-time best 8-0, the Lady Eagles saw their win streak end in another tight game.
After a 28-28 stalemate at halftime, Rachel Martin scored to spark an 11-2 OC run to start the second half. The Lady Eagles maintained the lead until the 9:15 mark when Dilenny Castillo scored to put the Lady Bison up 51-50.
The game stayed tight, and Katie Fariss' trey tied it at 62-62 with 2:45 to play. But Tabetha Eaton scored the final 10 points for the Lady Bison to clinch the upset.
Eaton led all scorers with 19 points. Lauren Decker led the Lady Eagles with 15 points, while Carlissa Plowden added 12 and Tasha Turney and Martin scored 11 apiece.
The loss dropped the Lady Eagles' record to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in SAC play.
