Eagles, Lady Eagles win going away

The OC women's basketball team showed off its new No. 9 national ranking by defeating St. Gregory's University 66-39 here Feb. 16.

Led by a 15-0 run in the first half, the Lady Eagles took control of the game early. After extending their first-half lead to 37-16 at halftime, OC began the second half on a 12-2 run to secure the victory.

Senior Tasha Turney led all scorers with 15 points while Lauren Decker added 13. Carrie Mills came off the bench to nail three three-pointers; she finished with nine points.

The Lady Eagles are in second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 20-6 overall record and a 13-2 mark in conference play. It is OC's fifth consecutive 20-win season.

In the men's game, the Eagles overcame a one-point halftime deficit to defeat the Cavaliers 77-62.

SGU led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but OC began the second stanza on an 11-0 run to take the lead. Keith Harris' three-pointer 54 seconds into the second half gave the Eagles a lead they never relinquished.

The Eagles led by as many as 17 points down the stretch, led by Dillon Ripley's game-high 19 points. Ripley equaled his career high, which he set Feb. 9 vs. Wayland Baptist.

Four other Eagles joined Ripley in double figures, with Harris adding 18 points and six rebounds. Brady Page scored 16 points and dished out eight assists.

Charles Baldwin and Micah Miles scored 11 apiece, with Miles grabbing seven rebounds and blocking three shots.

The Eagles are now 18-8 overall and 8-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play. OC is in fifth place in the SAC, a half-game behind John Brown and one game ahead of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, the Eagles' next two opponents.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles travel to Chickasha, Okla., Saturday to take on USAO. The women's game will tip off at 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m.
